Two Weeks And Counting

Well here we are 13 days and counting until the busiest days yet! The start of The Sidney Farmer's Market! I'm both nervous and excited. I sat down yesterday and tried to figure out just what flavors I want to take for my first day. I've narrowed it down to seven. Yes, seven. I know I should probably have it down to just 4 or 5, but I just keep thinking, "oh, these are good too, maybe I should make those". I've got my packaging ready, I've got my business cards ready, I think I've got my help ready, now it's time to focus on the cupcakes. I've tried a couple more recipes this week, and have had success with both of them. The two latest additions are Cherry Chip and Maple Bacon. Here's a picture of the Maple Bacon cupcake. I have to say, if you're looking for something different but tasty, this cupcake is for you. It is a Maple based cupcake infused with diced bacon pieces, topped with a maple buttercream, sea salt, raw sugar, and a crispy piece of bacon!! How could it be bad, it has bacon in it right?! Right!!
And another exciting thing that happened this week? I booked my first wedding!! Yeahh!! I have until September to practice so I'm good!!!

Another Day In The Kitchen

So another day spent in the kitchen yesterday, with 1 success and 1 failure! The success, my Kentucky Bourbon Barrell Ale Cupcake. My failure, trying to make caramel for the tops of them. It never fails, you have a great idea in mind, and you think, "oh, this shouldn't be too hard, I'll try it! What could go wrong?!" Well, it went wrong, to the point that the caramel, pan and all, went right in the trash can. I have to say though at my defense, these  pans are total crap! I haven't liked the way they cook since the day I got them. I will try it again, but with a different recipe and definitley a different pan! So instead of salted caramel topped cupcakes, we have fudge icing topped cupcakes!!  Enjoy!

A Crazy Inspiring Weekend

Well I think today was one of the craziest days of the cupcake business so far. Maybe it's preparing me for Cupcake Wars some day! Other than that, I was part of a truely amazing, inspiring, and beautiful event over the past two days. I attended the Women of Faith Conference in Columbus, Ohio. What an amazing experience. There were so many amazing women there, all of which have their very own story about their walk with Jesus. I laughed, I cried, I prayed, I felt the presence of God all around us. It wasn't until the last few hours of WOF that I felt God speaking directly to me. And the funny thing was, I cried the whole time, and I thougth prior to that moment that He was talking to me, and maybe He was, but it wasn't until Luci Swindoll came on stage that I realized I am doing this for a reason. Her message was about being able to do something and succeding against the odds simply because you have Jesus in your life and no one telling you that you can't. It was totally amazing. I can't quote exactly what she said, but all I know is that it touched me in a place only God knows was broken. I can't say enough about everyone that was there speaking or singing, but i would highly recommend a Women of Faith Conference to any woman out there!

So, back to the cupcakes! I'm trying to figure out just how all of this is going to work. I kept saying to myself when I decided to take this journey that I didn't want to do certain things. But now that I'm in this, I see why some other people do things the way that they do. They have a reason for baking ahead of time  :o)

I'm also thinking about coming up with a Flavor of the Month, but I'm just not sure how to do it, and what type of special to run with this. Anyone have any suggestions? Let me know, this business is for you and it wouldn't be what it is or is going to be with out you and God!!
